SOFTBALL VICTORIA AND VICHEALTH

BRING SOFTBALL TO BASS COAST

Bass Coast is showing tremendous interest and developing some impressive talent when it comes to Softball. So much so that we are looking to start a new Softball association in your backyard.

During the Januray school holidays we invited kids aged 7 to 14 to participate in this FREE school holiday program to help kick things off and the response was amazing! 41 kids got to learn from some of Victoria's best junior development coaches, participation coordinators and state representatives at Bass Recreation Reserve! We ran 5 stations with pitching and catching, batting, base running, bunting, infield and outfield, followed by games of T-ball and Softball where the kids got to show off their new skills.

Where to from here:

We then held a community meeting at Bass Rec Reserve on Monday 17th of April, which identified locals who are keen to see Bass Coast Softball get off the ground and have nominated to take on key positions to enable us to form a committee.

A 5-week Spotlight on Softball Series will now run for ALL AGES from 3 years upwards! Yes, kids and Adults are invited to come and participate in this fun introduction to Softball.

START DATE: May 5th for 5 weeks (5/5/2023 to 2/6/2023)

DAY / TIME: Fridays from 5 – 6:30pm

VENUE: Bass Recreation Reserve

Coaches will initially include Softball Victoria staff, and any community members who would like to step up to the plate and help out.

Thanks to VicHealth’s Future Healthy Big Connect funding:

  1. You do NOT need to bring or purchase any equipment – everything is provided for you & Softball Victoria will hand all equipment over to Bass Coast Softball when it’s operational
  2. We are able to keep the cost of participating very low – only $45 for Senior (18+) & $35 for Juniors (17U) for the 5 week program

This will be the beginning of a healthy future for Bass Coast Softball and we really look forward to seeing you all at Bass Recreation Reserve.

Through The Big Connect project “Regional Youth Communities Connection through Softball” Softball Victoria is bringing Softball to the Bass Coast:

We think Softball is the most FUN sport to play and want to see kids smashing home runs across the State!

To follow on from the school holiday program Softball activities will be set up in the community for kids and their families to get involved in, and over the next 12 months there will be a range of options in place, for young & old!

Now we need YOU to step up to the plate!!

Softball Victoria are looking for community members who want to:

  • Play Softball (all ages, all abilities)
  • Help to run the competition and association (with the assistance of the Bass Kilcunda cricket club)
  • Coach, Umpire or Score

Let’s get kids off the couch, off their devices, off the streets, and ONTO THE DIAMOND!

As well as growing grassroots community sport, we aim to engage at risk or vulnerable youth, Indigenous and CALD communities and increase participation in the significant percentage of kids that currently do not play any sport. The project will be community lead, allowing young leaders to emerge and take ownership to ensure we provide what the community wants.

To assist us in identifying members of the local communities who are as passionate as we are about driving sport participation, are passionate about Softball (a bonus but not essential), and would love to get involved in our project, please complete this FORM to help us get to first base!

Why Softball?

  • can be played by all ages and abilities
  • well-rounded skill development including striking, throwing, catching, fielding, and running
  • promotes strategic thinking, individual achievement, and teamwork
  • modifications enable it to suit the participants and environment

What will Softball Victoria bring to the field?

We’re providing everything required to create successful and sustainable Softball communities:

  • Training & Education – free training and accreditations for coaching, umpiring, scoring, and administration.
  • Equipment & facilities – the necessary tools required to create a sustainable Softball competition, including equipment and basic infrastructure.
  • Supporting Resources – Softball Victoria will provide a solid knowledge base for a strong Softball community to be built and maintained in these areas. There are currently 15 Associations full of dedicated administrators who want to see more Softball being played across the state. We have identified numerous experienced volunteers who will assist Softball Victoria in provide mentoring and guidance for newly formed Associations in regional Victoria.
  • Athlete Pathways – both the Shepparton and Bairnsdale communities have a long list of athletes who played Softball at a state or national representative levels, and we would love for this to be the case once again. Our high-performance pathways mean talented and driven Softball players are provided with excellent opportunities to take their game to Olympic level and even though the goal of this project is grassroots participation, talent identification is always on the radar.

Be part of our history-making project - “Regional Youth Communities Connection through Softball” and set kids on the right path!

Thank you for taking the time to read about our BIG plans to connect regional youth through Softball, we would greatly appreciate it if you would please complete the FORM (approximately 6 minutes) to help us get off the ground.

If you would like to discuss this exciting project with me, please don’t hesitate to get in touch via reply email on phone 0425 785 161.

If you know of other people in your regional area that would also love to see Softball back in regional Victoria, please forward this on so we can collect as many expressions of interest as possible!!
