Softball Victoria are saddened to share the news of the passing of Life Member, Des Smith. We would like to commemorate the life and exceptional contributions of Des, whose unwavering dedication to the Waverley Softball Association and Victorian Softball community will forever be cherished.

The Des Smith Medal, bestowed upon the Most Valuable Player in the Open 2 competition each year, stands as a testament to Des's exceptional contributions. This prestigious accolade serves as a reminder of his unwavering commitment to fostering talent, promoting sportsmanship, and recognising excellence within the association.

Through his guidance, mentorship, and encouragement, Des inspired athletes to strive for greatness and embrace the values that make softball such a special sport. Even after he retired from coaching, Des was still at the ground week in and week out to watch over his beloved club and association from Des’s Corner.

Softball Victoria extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones. Des's memory will forever be intertwined with the Waverley Softball Association and Syndal Softball Club, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations of players to embody the spirit of the Des Smith Medal.
